Year after year, new ideas, inventions, and innovations amaze us in surprising ways that we somehow forget the old ones that changed our lives for the better. Individuals with great ideas around Europe are inventing new methods and new products weekly and their ideas have changed people’s lives forever. Which is why I’ve curated a list of the top 10 ideas that originated from Europe.
Why are the top 10 ideas in Europe important?
Some of the top 10 ideas in Europe make it into products and services we will use in the future and some don’t. But it is important to remember that we need to celebrate the scientists, students, entrepreneurs and everyday workers who are taking risks, failing and trying again to get an idea into the market that makes life easier for the rest of us.

Europe, among other countries, has seen the surge of inventions that created an impact on the day-to-day life of people across the globe. In the last 100 years, we saw the birth and eventual death of inventions, and there’s no denying that some have outlived and proved themselves useful in today’s busy life- either with a little innovation or as an inspiration to surprisingly new technology patterned from the old. These are in no particular order.
Space Suit
The Space Suit makes a great role since the first mission on space, the first spacesuit was the Soviet SK-1 suit and worn by Yuri Gagarin. This suit keeps a human alive to the environment of outer space and until now this equipment is still used on missions to space.
Spacesuits are specially designed to protect astronauts from the cold, radiation and low pressure in space. They also provide air to breathe. Wearing a spacesuit allows an astronaut to survive and work in space.
Cinematograph
This device is capable of capturing images with an electronic image sensor that produces an electrical charge for each pixel in the image, which is electronically processed and stored in a video file for subsequent processing or display. Cinematography finds uses in many fields of science and business as well as for entertainment purposes and mass communication. Over the years, cinematography has proven itself to be a major contribution to film, furthering its artistic value and evolving as time changes.
Power Transformer
The invention of the first constant potential transformer was in 1885. It is considered as an electrical device that transfers electrical energy between two or more circuits. Power transformers have become essential for the transmission, distribution, and utilization of alternating current electric power.
The development of power transformers has enabled the efficient transmission of electrical energy over great distances, also allowing appliances of different voltages to exist.
Submarine
A long time ago during WW1 (1914–1918) submarines or a sub are widely used for attacking enemies below the surface some subs are used not just for wars but it can also be used for underwater explorations. The submarine is the single most powerful piece of military hardware ever devised.
Their job is not to be seen to go where no ship can go and if necessary, to strike without warning. Submarines played a key role during the Cold War and in a modern world marked by globalization and emerging regional powers these undersea behemoths are more important than ever.
Telephone
Hello? This is the word we used when calling or someone is calling us on the telephone, let’s head back to the days that there are no phone calls people used telegrams, letters, doves to send information and it takes time to receive those pieces of information but thanks to Alexander Graham Bell he introduced the telephone in 1876 and we can talk to someone we know in seconds, now it is widely used around the globe.
The telephone made an incredible impact on society. The impact could be seen through the quickness of communication, business, easier and communication in wars.
Aerosol Can
The first aerosol spray can patent was granted in Oslo in 1927 to Erik Rotheim, a chemical engineer. The Aerosol can is used for dispensing insecticide, that people fully realized the potential of the device. The easy-to-use cans were an invaluable aid for soldiers where disease-carrying insects posed a deadly threat.
Celsius Thermometer
Someone is sick and you want to know their temperature? Or you want to know how cold or hot outside? Well, the thermometer can help this device and it is used way back to the early 1710s until the introduction of the electronic device in the 1960s. The big impact of this invention is to measures our body temperature and help us to know the weather temperature which affects our life skills.
Heart Rate Monitor
The first wireless heart rate monitor was invented in 1977 by Polar Electro. It is a personal monitoring device that allows one to measure/display heart rate in real-time or record the heart rate for later study. It is largely used to gather heart rate data while performing various types of physical exercise.
Loudspeaker
The Loudspeaker was invented in 1925 by Edward W. Kellogg and Chester W. Rice. This device used electrical signals to produce sounds and most loudspeakers have three types of dynamic drivers. These larger loudspeaker systems are used for music, theatres, concerts, and public addresses. But in today’s generation, the smaller and handy speaker is in demand compare to the larger one.
Caravel
Caravel is no longer in use in recent years yet it was still remembered because of its usefulness. This is a standard ship use by the Portuguese as they sail from different places.
Caravel’s creation is among the most important theoretical discoveries that would later contribute to the success of European seafaring by forming the foundation of cutting-edge navigational techniques and other technologies.
